How smart campaigns start and when they send
Smart campaigns are pre-built message flows that send automatically based on your contacts' activity and timing. Here's how they start, how timing works, and why some messages send before others.
How campaigns start for a contact
Different smart campaigns start in different ways:
Enrollment-based campaigns
Campaigns like New Members start when someone enrolls in your downline. The app detects the new enrollment during sync. Your account's Welcome is different: you review and turn it on yourself. It does not start automatically when a contact syncs.
On newer accounts, Welcome is a one-time step before other proactive campaigns and funnels resume. You see it on the Smart tab while it needs review; it disappears once finished. On accounts using the earlier setup, it appears under Custom and can keep reaching newly eligible members after it is turned on. Writing your welcome message explains both paths.
Keyword-triggered campaigns
Campaigns like Tips start when a contact replies with a keyword. When someone texts "TIPS" to your number, they're added to the Tips campaign and start receiving tip messages.
If a contact texts a keyword, that requested reply may start before the contact receives an account Welcome. Other proactive messaging can wait while a newer account's one-time Welcome is pending.
Scheduled campaigns
Campaigns like Upcoming Loyalty send based on when a contact's loyalty order is due. The app checks each contact's subscription day and sends the reminder a few days before.
The Upcoming Loyalty audience is built fresh each day for contacts whose loyalty order is still Scheduled (not already Processed). People who already ordered earlier in the month are not included in that reminder window.
The welcome delay
Many smart campaign messages have a welcome delay — a number of days the message waits after a contact receives their welcome message before it can send.
This prevents overwhelming new contacts with too many texts at once. A contact who just enrolled today won't get your Tips Opt-In, News, or Anniversary messages until they've had time to settle in.
Campaigns with welcome delay:
- Tips Opt-In (waits ~30 days after welcome)
- News updates
- Anniversary messages
- Loyalty reminders
Campaigns without welcome delay:
- Keyword-triggered campaigns (Tips, etc.) — they send immediately when the contact replies
- Welcome message itself
How the welcome delay works
Each message item tracks how many days since the contact received their welcome. The message only sends once enough days have passed.
For example, if Tips Opt-In has a 30-day welcome delay:
- Contact receives welcome on Day 1
- Days 2-30: Tips Opt-In is held
- Day 30 or later: Tips Opt-In can send
For contacts who've been in your downline for a while (more than 30 days since any welcome), the delay doesn't apply — they're eligible immediately.
Day offsets within campaigns
Within a campaign, each message has a day delay — how many days after enrollment or campaign start that step should send (not necessarily "after the previous message").
For example, a drip might have:
- Message 1: Day 0 (immediate)
- Message 2: Day 3
- Message 3: Day 7
- Message 4: Day 14
- Message 5: Day 21
When messages actually send
Smart campaigns send on a daily schedule:
- Emails send in the morning (around 9am CT)
- Texts send late morning (around 11am CT)
The app calculates who should receive which message, then sends everything in batches. You can see what's coming up in Upcoming Sends on the Home tab.
